It’s a brand-new year, and we’re excited to start it off by sharing the details of a recent project in Golden Valley, Minnesota. With a cramped workspace, large soffit, and appliances issues, this 1950s home needed a facelift to make it more functional. Of course, our team was more than happy to help!
The client had a clear vision for this kitchen remodel, and set some clear goals, including:
- Removing the soffits and install taller upper cabinets
- Adding a range hood fan
- Installing new appliances, including a working double oven
- Giving more room to the cooking area
One of the unique elements about this project is that it was a remodel-in-place, meaning we kept the kitchen’s existing footprint. The biggest concern was removing the soffits and taking advantage of the extra space with new upper cabinets. But, like most remodeling projects, a few challenges came up.
While the original goal was to remove the soffits altogether, pipes from the home’s upper level prevented us from completely removing them. We ended up modifying the new cabinets to hide the pipes without impacting the overall design. We also kept some of the existing cabinets from the kitchen and dining room. Matching the door style and paint color of those cabinets was also a challenge.
Despite the hurdles we faced, we’re thrilled with how this Golden Valley kitchen remodel turned out! The new design features new cabinetry, a stunning tile backsplash, Cambria quartz countertops, a decorative range hood, and brand-new (working) appliances. The tie-in from the existing cabinetry is nearly seamless, thanks to a custom paint color and door profile!
