Spring Parade of Homes Remodelers Showcase
March 26-28, 2021, from noon to 6 PM

Empty for seven years, this 1950s rambler needed a lot of help! Our owner Jason lives near this fixer-upper and has been itching to see someone give this vacant home some attention and upkeep. In January 2020, his chance finally arrived, the home was for sale, and he jumped at the opportunity to give this house the TLC it deserved!

Shortly after beginning the project, Jason came to an agreement with friends who wanted to purchase the house once construction was complete. The project scope changed drastically at that point. As empty-nesters, the new owners wanted a master suite with a tray vault ceiling, accompanied by a walk-in closet and a large master bathroom. To find the extra space, we ended up eliminating one of the three upper-level bedrooms. The third bedroom allowed more room for the owner’s suite and created a new half bath.

While the inside of this home was completely transformed, the most significant challenge was the exterior. A small (8×8) breezeway connected the garage to the house through FOUR different doors! To re-define this area, we had to change the roofline. After removing all of the original roof trusses and starting from scratch, our team expanded the breezeway and added an upper-level laundry & mudroom. The new roof plan also included a gabled roof with a new cozy front porch/deck!

Other major changes to the home included:

Removing the chimney
Reconfiguring the location of several windows
Installing new Marvin Windows and a patio door
Digging out two new lookout egress windows
New American Standard Furnace, AC, and ducts
Replaced the entire electrical system + new garage sub panel
Installed new plumbing pipes and waste lines
Re-framing the lower level for a full bathroom, two bedrooms, a storage room, and future bar and entertaining space

Our team loved bringing this house back to life and seeing it occupied again. It was a pleasure to collaborate with these homeowners and create a place to retire and enjoy hosting their family and grandkids. (They previously lived in a newer townhouse in Inver Grove Heights where they could hear cupboard doors slam in the neighboring unit!) We can’t wait to share this home with all of you during the Spring Remodelers Showcase!
