What's the first step in seeing if we are the right fit to work together?

We’ll start with a phone conversation to find out more about your project. Then we’ll set up a time to meet at your house to review all of your plans, ideas, and dreams.

How long do typical remodels take?

Typically a bathroom remodel takes 3-5 weeks. The timing depends a lot on the choice of countertop and the complexity of the bathroom layout.

Kitchen remodels take 5-8 weeks on average. Again the more work that is done (wall removal, moving plumbing, etc), the longer the remodel time.

When do we talk about budget?

On our initial phone conversation, we will ask if you have thought about a budget. Then when we meet the first time, we’ll dive in to the topic a little more. We want to make sure that your budget is realistic for your dreams. There is big difference in what goes into a $40,000 kitchen and an $80,000 kitchen. We need to know your budget in order to design and plan accordingly.

Who does the design?

Jason does most of the kitchen and bathroom spacial planning himself since he’s a certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler. Other help comes from our trusted team of design partners as needed.

Do you have someone that can provide guidance during the selection process?

J. Carsten makes sure that you have as much guidance as you need for all of your selections. We offer help with selections such as carpet, tile, wood floors, countertop colors, wall colors, window coverings and many more. In addition, Jason personally assists in making cabinet selections. We want to make sure you’re aware of all your options and how those choices fit within your budget.

Who will be my main contact during the remodel?

Jason personally manages each project. There is no project manager to go through. Many times these managers have little knowledge or authority to make changes or answer questions. When you work directly with Jason, you get immediate answers and save time on the project overall.

How often will you be on-site during the remodel?

Some people say that they actually miss Jason when the job is over!! You will see Jason everyday that work is done on your remodel. In addition, Jason oversees the ‘heavy lifting’ of the project, like demo, plumbing rough-ins, or cabinet installation.

Why did you decide to start J. Carsten Remodeling?

The full story is available in the “about us” handout or website page, but the short story is because we really enjoy making dreams come true.

How many years have you been remodeling?

We have been in business since 2003. Initially we built custom homes and remodeled on the side, but around 2007 we started doing only remodels (the market played a big part in the change). Our background in new construction is very valuable, especially for larger projects that involve roof tear-offs, additions, or whole-home renovations.

What makes your team special?

We have a rare team, in that all of our associate contractors exhibit the same care and attention to detail as Jason does.

We understand that you have a dream and that you need help to get there.  We make sure that the process is well-managed — from the design stage, through planning and selections, to construction, to follow-up a year later. Our goal is to make sure that in the end, your dreams come to life exactly as you envisioned.

What is the most common project you help people with?

We update a lot of 80’s and 90’s builder-grade kitchens with oak cabinets (usually $300- $700k homes).

In fact, we deal with oak on almost every job! It’s often not feasible to remove all oak from a home, so we pick and choose which areas to replace and then choose complimentary items for the floor, cabinets, and wall colors to work with the oak. For a window in the kitchen, for example, we will typically replace the casing around the window. But for the rest of the house, the oak stays, and the new trim for the kitchen butts up to the oak.

What awards have you won?
